Abstract :
Only two paradigms have traditionally been considered in this field: the transmission of raw information to be processed remotely; or compression of information prior to transmission. This dichotomy has generally only been analysed from the point of view of the impact of data compression prior to transmission on image processing. The appearance of ubiquitous computing and the use of Visual Sensor Networks (VSN) have meant that other elements must be taken into consideration; specifically, the energy used and the effectiveness of the processing.
