  • Abstract
A novel color damage index of digital images is proposed based on the color characteristic histogram distance and primary and fundamental color distribution characters perceived by the human vision system. The proposed arithmetic measures the quality of an image which is damaged by the JPEG image compression scheme through comparing the cumulative histogram distances of hue, saturation, and luminance between two images. Meanwhile, the color richness and the low saturation ratio are also the reference base. Comparison between the proposed index and the most popular full-reference image quality assessment (IQA) method which is called SSIM indicates that the proposed arithmetic could be more efficient.
