Abstract :
Two kinds of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), back propagate (BP) and back propagate-genetic algorithm (BP-GA) neural networks, are employed for long-term evaluation of great earthquakes. The potential maximum magnitude and the number of earthquakes with MW≥6.5 are predicted for Himalaya area and Nepal area. The Nepal Earthquake, occurred on April 25, 2015, is adopted to check the result. The result shows that this event cannot be evaluated, if we simply use Nepalese historical earthquake data. However, it is possible if we look up to the Himalaya area. And, in this case, the BP-GA neural network has no advantage over the BP network.
