  • Abstract
The genetic algorithm, an intelligent heuristic search algorithm, is capable of finding the global optimum solution in multidimensional space quickly, which covers the shortage of GIS in the automatic search and knowledge processing of combinational optimization problems. Based on the site selection of the public library in Nanjing, this paper connects genetic algorithm with facility location. By encoding various site selection factors into fitness functions, the optimal solution is calculated through the population reproduction of genetic algorithms. Then, the optimum location for the library is found. By studying the genetic algorithms both by binary encoding and decimal encoding, a better performance of genetic algorithm by decimal encoding was found in facility location.
