Abstract
Remote sensing images play important roles in various applications, such as meteorology, geology, ecology, hydrology, and so on. The quality of remote sensing images is the key in the success of these applications. It provides the basis for classification, segmentation, compression, etc. In this paper, we aim to provide a review of quality assessment for remote sensing images. We introduce some background and preliminaries of remote sensing images and corresponding quality assessment. We classify the quality assessment methods into two categories, i.e., Imaging quality and processed image quality assessment methods. Specific methods are introduced individually. We also present a quality assessment application of Lands at 8 OLI images by discussing the impact of image quality on classification accuracy.
