Abstract :
This paper proposed a ship handling simulator using actual training ship for third grade pilot trainees. The ship handling simulator was achieved by developing the control system which reproduced a large vessel´s maneuverability on the actual training ship. Moreover, visual system that gave scenery from large vessel´s bridge for trainees by using Augmented Reality was developed. In order to evaluate the influence of the developed system on trainees, trainee´s mental workload when the system was used was measured at the actual ship experiment. The experimental result showed that developed system derives trainee´s high motivation for maneuvering training.
