Abstract :
In long distance fiber optic communication systems, the influence of modal noise on the system performances is very important. Modal noise mostly arises in the splice of two fibers or due to an imperfect connectors. The circuit noise is also incorporated in the analysis and hence the bit error rate versus input optical power is derived. The bit error rate degradation due to modal noise is presented.
