Abstract
In this paper, evaluation of detection range for our ISRA S-band coastal radar is presented. The range of detection for this radar has been compared based on trihedral calibrator computation, simulation of the distance to horizon and the field experiment using the calibrator as a target and mounted on the pole of a ship. Height of the radar antenna against the sea level, height of target and size of target influence the detection range. Based on our field experiment, the target can be detected up to 6 NM (=10.8 Km). The target can be detected beyond 6 NM range scale because of the ship cannot maintain the calibrator always facing the radar site due to the effects of sea waves and there are three islands in front of the radar site that obstruct the radar from detecting targets behinds or nearby the islands.
