Abstract
This paper presents an optimized configuration of a bidirectional single-phase vehicle to grid (V2G) system which consisted of a DC/AC inverter and a full-bridge isolated DC/DC converter. An optimized current controller is designed for the DC/AC converter that improves the system operation in terms of reducing switching losses whereby increasing the efficiency of power-flow. It regulates the DC-link voltage based on the instantaneous electric vehicle (EV) battery voltage while provides the unity power factor during the operation of the system. A phase shift controller is also designed for the DC/DC converter that provides the bidirectional operation and control charging and discharging modes of the EVs battery in soft-switching mode. The proposed system is implemented and simulated using PSCAD software. From the simulation results, it is found that this optimized V2G system provides excellent performance in terms of operation in unity power factor, reducing switching stresses, losses and increasing overall efficiency.
