Abstract :
Many studies have shown that diverse teams make for better teams. Diversity within an organisation not only opens doors to a larger talent pool but allows for varied viewpoints, eliminates silo thinking and thereby fosters innovation and subsequently improves an organisation´s functional health. Although the face of diversity is ever expansive, engineering´s first step towards diversity is to tackle the discrepancy of gender disparities. In partnership with Rio Tinto, the members of the Australian Power Institute, and the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association, The University of Queensland´s Women in Engineering program is an industry funded and university led initiative promoting females into the field of engineering. The program´s main Key Performance Indicator is to increase female engineering enrolment at The University of Queensland to 30% by 2023. The program operates through outreach programs at the high school level, university level initiatives, and industry engagement.
