Abstract
The wireless sensor network technology emerged in the late 1990s, since then it has spread across a wide range of potential applications to industry, science, transportation, civil infrastructure, and security. Main research efforts in the wireless sensor network field focused on achieving the desired performance requirements and reducing the energy consumption to the least possible. This survey paper introduces some of the most recent research outcomes on the energy consumption of wireless sensor networks.
