PMM-SA: A performance monitor model for the large-scale system area network

As the high-speed network environments become increasingly complex, how to effectively monitor large-scale network traffic, how to find the network performance bottlenecks and the potential failure, and how to gain the network performance optimization have emerged as important research topics. This paper presents a network performance monitor model called NPM, which uses a hierarchical structure with better scalability to the large-scale system area network. Through taking various factors into account, the paper also proposes the assessment model of the network health, on the basis of which an adaptive multi-thread performance monitoring method is proposed further. Finally the paper verifies the model and the method by testing and analyzing the network performance in accordance with the real traffic in some system area network.
