Abstract :
The Controller Area Network (CAN) has been widely used in industrial automation for its excellent performance. Usually a network is considered as a reliable and transparent layer. However, various factors contributed by the harsh industrial environment may affect the performance of the network. In this work, the effects of vibration on the cable connection reliability are studied. Since the connectors are more susceptible to the impact of vibration, an accelerated experiment test-bed for connection failure in the OPEN5 connector is constructed because this connector is widely used in manufacturing facilities. It shows that the time of the connected node completely turns to bus off state and the vibration intensity have a power law relationship. In addition, the experiments show that low strength vibration will generate consistent connection problems.
