Abstract
This paper focuses on developing history of model based engineering from the early geometry representation based equipment programming to latest multidisciplinary product models covering the years between 1976 and 2015. Research activity of the author in this subject area falls within this period. This is good opportunity to draw a parallel between leading advancements in engineering modeling and research efforts by the author at milestone approaches, concepts, methods, and model structures. Introduction of current scenario in engineering systems considers present level of computer system based engineering as milestone. Surveying the above parallel history, this paper identifies and characterizes developing ideas and strategies which contribute to content enriching of object representations. Author´s personal contributions to enriching engineering model content are introduced in three thematic groups during the above time period. Research projects and up-to-date laboratory systems are placed in the background of research. Finally, intellectual property driven virtual engineering space is anticipated for the next future.
