Abstract :
The effects of different substrate composition on Chinese cabbages´ growth, yield and quality in the substrate culture was explored. Six substrate compositions were designed by volume ration and the control plant s were cultivated in soil. The organic soil mixed with composed cow dung, rice husk, wheat straw, chicken dung and Sheep dung were used as substrate for Chinese cabbage cultivation to compare the yield and nutrient quality in ordinary soil. The available nutrient of organic substrates control remarkably. Organic substrates showed a suitable bulk density and porosity. The EC and pH of substrates were a bit too high at the beginning, but decreased to the suitable range in fruit stage(EC<;2.5 ms/cm, pH 5.5 -- 7.5). The results showed that Chinese cabbage cultivated with organic substrate grew better than that in ordinary soil, and the yield in organic soil could increase up to 80.4%. The Chinese cabbage cultivated under organic substrate had high content of crude protein content, total sugar and vitamin C. The content of heavy metals planted in organic substrate composition was far less than the limited standards of that in the pollution-free vegetables and food. Such experiment seemed that organic substrate cultivation could be used in Chinese cabbage to increase yield and improve nutrient quality.
