Abstract
The paper presents the design aspects of Inner Mounted Permanent Magnet (IPM) Synchronous Wind Generator. The design concepts and performance analyses have been done with traditional formula and finite element analysis (FEA). For electrical performance verification, no-load and full-load voltage, d- and q-axis reactance, voltage regulation ratio, demagnetizing condition, loss and efficiency, etc. are evaluated by analysis method and FEA. For mechanical design, machine stress and deformation distribution, especially in an inner permanent magnet rotor is analyzed by FEA to ensure against damage of the rotor during running. For thermal and flow management, temperature distribution in the IPM generator is calculated by FEA. All analyzed results show the designed IPM generator can meet with the requirements of the generator system and customer´s specs. Also, a prototype of IPM synchronous wind generator is built, key performance and the temperature at full-load are tested and compared with calculated data. Good agreement is found in the comparison.
