Abstract
The increasing penetration of distributed generation (DGs) in distribution network promotes the development of microgrid. As important DG unit in isolated medium-voltage (MV) microgrid, the operating characteristics of the double fed induction generator (DFIG) have a crucial effect on microgrid stability. This paper analyzes the operating characteristics of DFIG in microgrid. Considering the constraint of microgrid operation modes, in order to improve the steady-state voltage stability of microgrid with DFIG, control strategies based on energy storage system (ESS), pitch angle control of DFIG in local control layer are proposed. The studies are performed using PSCAD/EMTDC. Studies results indicate that the proposed control strategies in different operation modes can remarkably enhance voltage stability for microgrid under wind disturbances.
