Abstract
This paper presents a stator inter-turn fault detection approach for the inverter-fed induction motor (IM) based on the Teager-Kaiser energy operation (TKEO). The zero sequence voltage under the excitation of the inverter switching harmonics is analyzed, and the characteristic frequencies of the inter-turn fault in the inverter common-mode voltage (CMV) is derived. In this way, the monitoring sensitivity to the variation of the IM parameters can be reduced fairly owing to the high frequency. Meanwhile, the major difficulty, interference of the inverter noises, in the diagnosis for inverter-fed IM is overcome by applying the TEKO to the CMV. After the processing of the original signals, the fault severities can be extracted briefly by using the reliable spectral analysis. The performance of the proposed method has been evaluated through experimental tests on the laboratory setup.
