Abstract :
The performance of grid-connected wind energy conversion systems with doubly-fed induction generators can be severely affected by grid events and low power quality, as the stator of the generator is directly connected to the grid. This paper presents power quality phenomena commonly encountered in the electrical grid and analyses their effect on the performance of DFIG-based wind energy conversion systems. Different solutions in the form of additional hardware and enhancement in the control system of the DFIG will be discussed, which are able to mitigate these negative effects.
