Abstract :
Intense electromagnetic environments of conductive cavities are of interest in managing radio frequency hazards in a range of military platforms. RF emitters are becoming more widespread in these cavities causing potential hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance (HERO) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) to electronic equipment. Typical techniques are time consuming. The random walk technique developed by NAVSEA in Dahlgren, Virginia, USA allows a conductive cavity to be surveyed in a small amount of time with hand held equipment. The technique is being assessed to determine its utility for meeting Australian Navy requirements.
