Abstract :
Today, stringent emission norms, fuel economy targets environmental concerns and increasing crude oil prices are compelling the automotive industry to consider alternate propulsion technologies. Every major OEM in the world is working towards development of alternative propulsion technology based on above factors. Initiative in emerging markets towards development of Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles has multitude of challenges arising from adapting products/ technologies to local conditions which differ from the prevailing conditions in matured markets. Customer Preference, Driving Behavior, Challenging Thermal Profile etc. needs to be addressed for the intended market to ensure viability and sustainability of the technology. These factors will be detailed from Indian perspective. A methodical approach to designing hybrid products based on the influencing factors will be detailed. This involves architecture definition, component sizing, simulation to evaluate the system performance etc. This will enable in choosing right technology and optimizing the product for the Indian market.
