Abstract :
This paper proposes a cuckoo search (CS) algorithm for economic dispatch (ED) of a power system integrated wind energy sources. The proposed algorithm is to seek the optimal generated-powers to minimize the total generation costs of the power system with thermal power plants. Additionally, the paper proposes to integrate the power system with wind energy sources which are renewable, widely distributed, clean and no greenhouse gas emissions during operation. The CS algorithm based ED problem of the power system with and without wind powers is considered on a modified IEEE 30-bus 6-conventional generator 2-wind farm 41-transmission line test power system. The numerical results validate the capabilities of the proposed CS algorithm to generate optimal dispatch solutions of the ED problem incorporating the wind energy resources. The comparison with the PSO algorithm demonstrates the superiority of the proposed CS algorithm and confirms its potential to solve the ED problem, especially in power systems integrated wind energy sources.
