Abstract :
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are starting to have a huge impact on our societies. In a near future there will be large amounts of data to be collected and people will be able to easily interact with sensor devices using Web application frameworks. CoAP/Observe protocol has been recently proposed to provide RESTful services in constrained nodes and networks. CoAP/Observe allows registration steps through proxies to be planned having aggregation of notifications in mind, so that energy and bandwidth is optimized. However, aggregation operations throughout network nodes should take fairness into consideration or otherwise different levels of timeliness and battery depletion, among observation requests and network nodes respectively, will exist. In this article we propose a way of planning registration steps having fairness into consideration. Our approach leads to timeliness and battery depletion fairness, providing equity among both observation requests (users) and network nodes.
