Abstract :
In this paper, a Double Negative (DNG) metamaterial is presented to enhance the performance of Microstrip Patch Antenna (MPA). The scattering parameters are used to design and validate the DNG structure. The proposed DNG is then used as a superstrate of MPA. To compare the performance a conventional MPA without DNG is also simulated. The results show that MPA with DNG has improved performance in terms of directivity, gain and efficiency. The gain is increased by 1.53dB. The efficiency is increased from 62% to 84% approximately. The proposed DNG based MPA can be a good candidate for use in advanced wireless communication systems.
