  • Abstract
Nowadays the majority of physicians in develop countries still uses paper documents, sometimes illegible, which may cause medication errors. Another common problem is that the patient usually forgets the correct time to take the medicine. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of a flexible ubiquitous prototypal solution to improve medical adherence and help physicians by providing them with a tool for creating electronic prescriptions, and help the patients, by creating a system to help them take the medicine on schedule. In the proposed architecture the prescriptions are sent to the patients´ mobile devices and taken home where a home gateway, through other intelligent home devices, including an intelligent cabinet, will provide alarms to remind the patient of the correct time to administer the medicines. The cabinet records the actual time medicines are taken, and the system provides a return channel to help the physician understand the real effect of the prescribed medicine, informing the adherence level and deviation from de time prescribed in order to improve the doctor-patient relationship, and therefore the adherence to prescription.
