  • Abstract
QT prolongation has been associated with arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, but despite this it has been less studied among patients with Alzheimer´s disease and vascular dementia. For measuring QTc we have used the new criteria of American Heart Association Electrocardiography and Arrhythmias Committee. There were no significant differences in QTc, values between Alzheimer´s disease patients and control subjects, but we found a significant increase of QTc in vascular dementia patients. Our data suggest that VaD patients have a high risks of sudden death associated with prolongation of QTc, compared with controls and AD patients.
