Abstract
Pressure and friction are the main mechanical factors implied in increasing the risk of ulceration of the diabetic foot. If for the evaluation of the pressure at the foot-supporting surface interface there are available commercial devices and procedures, the evaluation of friction does not benefit from a similar infrastructure. Free moment, evaluated by means of a force platform, could be a measure of rotational friction between foot and supporting surface. The aim of this paper is to present an orthotic solution for influencing the rotational friction in walking, evaluated through free moment. This orthotic solution has a potential for application for reducing the rotational friction in the case of diabetic foot.
