Abstract :
Patients such as paraplegic and most elderly people cannot move around without the help of other people. Such patients are immobile and need assistance of wheelchair for their movements. Most of these people cannot communicate with their caretaking personnel through complex cellular communications for emergency help. This paper describes the development of a portable device that can be attached to wheelchairs, which solves the problem of disabled persons in need of emergency help. This prototype has a drive system consisting of embedded microcontroller, Bluetooth, GSM (Global System for Mobile communication), GPS (Global Positioning System), and gyroscope. The system detects any accident or emergency help needed by the patient, generate a signal through embedded microcontroller to the GSM or GPS, to seek attention.
