  • Abstract
This paper deals with the validation of a simplified first order thermal model in machine operative conditions for the prediction of the winding temperature during overload duty. The machine used for the model validation is a 10 kW automotive starter-generator prototype for mini-hybrid powertrain. The functionalities required to the machine are mainly transitory operative conditions such as engine cranking, torque assistance during acceleration and braking. Therefore an accurate stator winding temperature prediction is needed to fully exploit the machine performance. In the first part of the paper, the parameters of the thermal model are evaluated by fast experimental approach. Subsequently, in the second part, the model is validated during operative overload conditions.
