Abstract :
This paper represents the performance comparison of a patch antenna operating at 2.4 GHz employing three different types of Metamaterial surfaces (Mushroom-like, spiral and slotted) as a ground plane. A 2 mm thicker Felt material (relative permittivity=1.38, loss tangent=0.02) is used as a substrate in the design of both the conventional and metamaterial based antennas. A ponderable improvement in gain, directivity and bandwidth has been achieved in performance of antenna using metamaterial surfaces as a ground plane. The antenna mention in this paper can be used for military applications and in wearable electronics.
