Abstract :
The paper studies the design and construction of a Dual-Active-Bridge isolated DC/DC converter for tying energy storage systems to the DC link of a Power Electronic Converter. Among the keystone applications of such configuration, grid support for power quality systems, on/off board battery charger systems for plugged-in hybrid electric vehicles or Charging Station systems outstand as the most interesting from the technical and economic points of view. All these applications allow for the development of the Microgrid concept and boost the advancement towards electrical transportation. The converter is analytically characterized, a control structure is developed to ensure a constant battery voltage with a fast stable ride-through during transient events, and an experimental test platform is designed to assess the studied modulation and control strategies under 2kW power level.
