Abstract :
In this research article, the Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol and its route maintenance parameters such as Active Route Timeout (ART) and Delete Period Constant (DPC) have been considered for the analysis. As per this paper, ART and DPC have a direct effect on the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters like throughput, average jitter, average end-to-end delay and drop packets etc. The prime concern of this paper is to identify the effect of varying ART and DPC on the performance of AODV routing protocol. In addition, the paper tries to find out an optimal value of ART and DPC at which route failure issues are minimized. Further, this article measures the degree at which the number of Active Nodes (ANs) or SD pairs (i.e. number of nodes that are actively participating in communication at any given time) will affect the QoS parameters. These considerations are presented, discussed and simulated using QualNet7.1. Here, the best performance of the network has been observed at ART=1 second for Variable Bitrate (VBR). Hence, memory overheads are less by 2 seconds from its default value, particularly for VBR traffic. Moreover, the variation in ANs influences the network performance. In this case, the excellent performance of the network has been observed at ANs = 8.
