Abstract :
Two wideband microstrip patch arrays sharing a common aperture are designed for GSM, DCS and UMTS cellular deployment in this paper. The proposed arrays consist of a lower band array with 4 elements and an upper band array with 4 differently sized elements. The design of proposed shared aperture arrays helps to reduce the aperture size. In contrast to the lower-band element, two pieces of rectangular metals are added to the radiating patch of the upper-band element and can be applied to achieve a wider bandwidth. The measured results show that the impedance bandwidths of the two arrays are ranged from 0.816 to 1.1 GHz and from 1.57 to 2.45 GHz for VSWR <; 2, respectively. Furthermore, a desirable gain and stable radiation characteristic are achieved.
