Abstract
This paper shows the implementation of a prototype for measuring blood pressure using a mobile device (Smartphone, tablets) operating on the Android platform. The implementation consists of software and hardware, the measurement method of the device is based on the oscillometric technique. The software consists of the graphical user interface, scheduling algorithms and the logic module for hardware operation, all implemented in Java as a programming language. The hardware consists of a micropump, one solenoid and IOIO android card for control, data acquisition and transmission to the mobile device. The prototype provides the patient the measurement of blood pressure (systolic, diastolic and mean); also allows having a record that is stored on the mobile device. The tests were performed in patients whose results were compared with similar electronic devices with the same functionality available in the market, and with the manual measurement of blood pressure, which shows that the prototype works efficiently with a margin of error of 4mmHg permissible in all electronic devices according to standards such as standard EN1060-1 4 and AAMI.
