Abstract :
For porous materials such as cancellous bones, a digital image correlation (DIC) method was used in the deformation measurement. Directly using microstructural or texture features instead of artificial speckle marks, an algorithm routine of DIC deformation measurement was programmed with MATLAB. The deformation analysis program was firstly tested with simulative speckle images, then the whole scheme of DIC deformation measurement was on trial through an indentation test in which porcine femur was chosen as the specimen. The simulation and test results show that the author developed program is feasible, in which the microstructural features of cancellous bone are used for feature point matching. Such scheme can also be applied to deformation measurements of other porous materials which have similar microstructures to cancellous bone.
