Title :
Spent flow discharge apparatus for instream hydro power turbine
Author :
George F. McBride
Abstract :
The spent flow discharge apparatus that is the subject of this paper provides a means of reenergizing spent flow so that it can be discharged and carried away with the ambient stream, to allow a new portion of ambient flow to enter in and power the machine. The only forces available to make that happen derive from the ambient stream itself. The spent flow discharge apparatus consists of an ambient flow deflector and a downstream body. The downstream body comprises a backflow preventer and mixing surface that operate together with the ambient flow deflector to create conditions of pressure and speed in the stream flow outside the machine that will help draw spent flow away.
