Business Model Management System Design: Manifesto, Requirements, and Prototype

Digitalization of businesses and society at large requires continuous and more elaborate reflection on business models and has become a critical business success factor. Business model meta-models have become important tools for their description, explanation, and decisions on them. In future they will serve as universal management frameworks and reference for all business decisions. However, this requires Business Model Management System (BMMS) for comprehensive software-support. We identify the key factors in the development of such BMMS and describe how they influence its development. We provide a manifesto for BMMS and apply a design science approach to the development of a BMMS prototype. The latter is based on short- and long-term user requirements using SAP field experience on business model innovation.
