Abstract :
It is of great concern to find out the factors determining charging densities. The authors have been engaged in experiments as to the relation between the application of additives and the charging density. It was found that the peak values for C.M.C. and charging density coincided. I n add i t i on, before C. M. C. was reached, charging density increased in proportion to the quantity of additive used. Since the additives used were ionics, we may assume the electric charge was determined by the number of ions present in the Iiquid and number adsorbed at the Stern interface. The authors therefore investigated the number of ions adsorbed. The experimental results came extremely close to values predicted from theoretical calculations. KIinkenberg´s and Leonard´s results also closely match the author´s calculation values.
