Abstract :
In this paper a V shaped magnet concentrated winding 12 slot 8 pole Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) is investigated as a suitable candidate for operation with a wide Constant Power Speed Region (CPSR). Specific physical changes are applied to the initial design in order to study impacts of these changes on the machine CPSR, inductance values, cogging torque and induced voltage harmonic spectrum. Each of these are assessed using Finite Element Models (FEM). In addition to physical design changes, three different types of lamination steel are applied to the structure of the final improved IPMSM, and loss and efficiency analysis are carried out. A final design is presented, along with explanation of the impact of design choices on performance.
