Abstract :
This paper presents the design concepts, the optimization and the test results of a Permanent Magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for an electro-mechanical actuator. This application is for a laser-welding machine for the dynamic wobble of the beam. The motor is directly integrated with the mechanical component due to the reduced envelope available. In order to minimize the total inertia and the motor´s size a solution in axis is preferred. A motor architecture (4 pole-18 slots) is chosen and verified by FEM. Then based on designing consideration an optimization procedure has been establish in order to have in the same envelope higher performances. A prototype has been manufactured using the design data of the optimization procedure. Test results confirm the performances and the reliability of the prototype.
