Abstract
New techniques for load flow analysis of UPFC embedded power systems are developed. The main characteristics of the techniques are that an equivalent network without UPFCs, which can be obtained easily according to four basic schemes of UPFC control, is used for load flow analysis of the original system including UPFCs. Then control parameters of each UPFC are determined by the load flow solution. With the equivalent network, conventional approaches for power flow analysis such as the Newton-Raphson and the fast P-Q decoupled methods can be directly employed for load flow solutions of the original system with UPFCs. Hence it inherits the advantages of the conventional techniques. Case studies are reported to indicate the effectiveness and efficiency of the techniques.
