Abstract :
The paper presents a balanced overview of the voltage dip problem. It suggests that the most constructive way forward is for the suppliers and users of electrical power to work closely together to achieve the most economic solution. First, a brief outline is given of the cause of voltage dips, their characteristics and statistics. Sensitivities of relay and control equipment are then given and the relevant sensitivity standards introduced. Examples of how power suppliers and users can move constructively together to meet this mutually acceptable standard are described.
