Abstract
Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) have become the talk of researchers for their various features and advantages. One of its major feature is that it intends to solve the problem of interference. Despite this fact, the channel assignment to multiple radios of the nodes in WMN is a tricky area of concern. This motivated the authors to explore MRMC WMN and propose a new channel assignment scheme to improve the performance of the network. The proposed CA scheme consists of two time scales: macro and micro time scales. At macro time scale the processes involved are formation of clusters based on the protocol model of interference and allocation of channels to these clusters through latin matrix. At micro time scale, a new back off slot assignment strategy for the nodes through latin matrix is applied. The simulation of the new scheme is conducted in Network Simulator-3 and its performance is analysed with respect to throughput and delay parameters. The analysis shows that the new proposed CA scheme improves the performance of the network when compared to the simple static CA scheme whereas the new CA scheme with random backoff slot allocation approach is comparable with the new backoff slot assignment methodology.
