Abstract :
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is one of the important application domains of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) where health status of a civil structure is monitored continuously. Pipeline Monitoring is one of the important applications in the area of WSN SHM that uses a hierarchical network with heterogeneous nodes where each layer assigned different task by using different types of nodes. The main objective of this study is to save energy by effective utilization of WSN network services for pipeline monitoring. Major challenge is to collect large amount of data using minimum transmission. In this paper a Query Processing (QP) technique is tested to reduce the number of transmissions. The simulation is done for a set of queries with the background of long running continuous data collection. The query processing technique accepts queries in declarative language and then transforms into an efficient set of queries based on similarity of data. The implementation is done using MATLAB with Berkeley-Intel lab data as the basic setup. Results of simulation confirm the QP technique is energy efficient. MATLAB user interface is used to display results. The interface is simple and easy to implement.
