Abstract :
Silicon carbide loaded epoxy resins are used as electrical stress relieving layers in the endwinding region of large turbogenerators. The transfer mechanisms in similar aggregates, varistors, are not clear (1). The voltage/current characteristics of the materials were therefore studied using high voltage 50 Hz a.c. and d.c. and variable frequency a.c. low voltages applied. A model is proposed to explain the observed current transfer characteristics.
