Abstract :
High-resolution (1 mm) FDTD simulations of microwave penetration into a generic missile are presented. The object, being representative of a large and important class of shielded enclosures, consists of a hollow metallic cylinder with complex internal metallic and lossy dielectric structures. Field penetration takes place via thin slots in the shell. It is demonstrated that by carefully controlling the measurement setup and using an appropriate spatial resolution in the simulations, very good agreement between simulations and measurements is achieved, both in terms of internal field levels and frequency dependence
