Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach of filter design based on convolution windows. A convolution window is generated by multiple time-convolutions of classical parent windows. In this paper, convolved Hanning window is used for the design of FIR Filter. It is shown that the filter designed using convolved window exhibits higher sidelobe attenuation and higher sidelobe fall off rate. Application of this filter as a low pass prototype filter in filterbank design is also demonstrated. It is observed that the better sidelobe behavior of the newly designed filter leads to considerable reduction in the aliasing error of the filterbank. Performance parameters of the filterbanks designed using window obtained by self convolution of Hanning window, are also evaluated.
