Abstract
This paper presents a dual polarization dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with higher mode suppression, high isolation and low cross-polarization due to differential excitation. The cross shaped dielectric resonator provides two mutually orthogonal modes without coupling which are utilized to achieve dual polarization. Fed by two pairs of differential probes and metal strips, the antenna shows good performance in higher mode suppression, isolation and cross-polarization reduction. Field distributions and comparison of reflection coefficient, radiation pattern between the proposed DRA and the single-ended one are presented. A prototype of the proposed antenna is designed, fabricated and tested. Besides, with differential excitation, the DRA can be integrated with differential circuits directly.
