Abstract :
We launched a terahertz high-speed communication research based on terahertz monolithic integrated circuit chip (TMIC). The TMIC employs GaAs Schottky diodes to realize direct up and down-conversion between broadband IF and terahertz band. A 340 GHz subharmonic balanced modulator using waveguide structure was designed, simulation shows that the transition loss in LO port is less than 0.4 dB, RF port is less than 0.3 dB, and the conversion loss is less than 14 dB. For different forms of digital modulation methods, we carried out the terahertz communication system link budget and comparative analysis based on the TMIC modulator. Paper shows the effect of different system parameters and modulation type to the communication rate, which could achieve the transmission rate more than 30 Gbps.
