  • Abstract
    The EBG structure have special electromagnetic properties such as high surface impedance and suppression of propagating surface currents within a frequency band. Fractal structure has two special properties: space-filling property and self similarity property which may help the antenna have good performance. In this paper, a new PIFA with fractal EBG structure as its ground will be investigated. The proposed antenna has shown improvement over the conventional PIFA in directivity, gain and bandwidth. The investigation is based on RFID system and operated in UHF which is 920MHz to 925MHz in China. The simulation results were compared with the experiment results, it was discovered that their return loss agreed well with each other.
